President's Outstanding Woman Award

MSU honors local woman with 2014 Outstanding Community Woman Award

(MERIDIAN) - The MSU President's Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) formally recognized the 2014 Outstanding Women Award winners during a reception on Tuesday [April 8] at Griffis Hall's Forum Room. Felecia Brown, of the Purvis Clinic in Meridian, was recognized with the Outstanding Community Woman Award.  

Established in the late 1970s by MSU President James D. McComas (1976-85), PCSW advises the institution's chief executive on issues affecting the status and role of campus women. Since the beginning, its awards have recognized advocates for the well-being, development and advancement of women on MSU campuses and surrounding communities.

Brown is a certified nurse midwife, a mother of four, and grandmother of two.  In addition to her responsibilities at the Purvis Clinic, she founded an organization called "Divas on the Run" which focuses on assisting women in getting physically fit.  She typically holds meetings twice a day, four days a week when working with women to reach fitness goals. On June 21st, the Divas on the Run will host their 1st race in an effort to raise money for location organizations in Meridian.  

Brown has also organized and hosted two empowerment seminars for women covering such topics as financial fitness, estate planning, investments, continuing education, mental health, nutrition, self-defense and more.  These seminars have been provided free of charge to participants.
