Admission Requirements

In recent months, there have been several changes to licensure and admission requirements for teacher education. Please see these changes below:

Students Admitted to Phase 2 of Teacher Education

Students are required to obtain a 21 on the ACT or a passing score on the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators, or a 3.0 GPA on 60 hours of core college coursework.

Students Admitted to MAT-S (Alternate Route; Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Education):

  • Students are required to obtain a 21on the ACT or a passing score on the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators, or have a 3.0 GPA on the last 60 hours of college coursework. 
  • Individuals must show proficiency in the content area by meeting one of the following: a bachelor’s degree in the area of licensure sought OR a bachelor’s degree in any area with 18 hours of undergraduate/graduate coursework with a grade of “C” or higher in the area of licensure sought (remedial courses won’t count) OR at least a bachelor’s degree in any area and a passing score on the appropriate Subject Area Assessment

Admission to All Other Graduate Programs

The GRE is no longer required. A  minimum GPA of 3.00 on a Bachelor’s degree is recommended.
