M.A. in Teaching with Major in Community College Education

The interdisciplinary degree prepares educators for service in rural community colleges and
requires a minimum of 18 hours in the student's teaching field. The professional education
sequence will include a teaching practicum under the supervision of a community college
instructor. The education courses will introduce students to the philosophy and culture of the
community college and prepare them to teach nontraditional and first generation students.
Sensitivity to diversity and adult learning theory will also be included in the curriculum. A
certificate is also available for those with the traditional M.A. who might wish to transition into
community college careers.
